The Wholesale Market

The Wholesale Market was an exhibition held at Colley Ison Gallery in 2017.

In this collection Danny Howes portrays the characters of the market traders, fish sellers and their customers at work and at rest, haggling over a deal, queueing for a sandwich in the café or sharing a joke. 

Nicklin Revisited

In collaboration with BrumPic, artists represented by Colley Ison Gallery were invited to produce new work inspired by the photographs of Birmingham photographer and lecturer Phyllis Nicklin. During a hugely successful group exhibition at Colley Ison Gallery in January 2016, all of Danny Howes’ works were acquired by private collectors. Four of his images, which capture the individuality of the city and its people in the 1950s and 1960s, are now available as signed limited editions.

Danny Howes’ reputation as a portrait painter is growing at a dramatic rate.  He has a remarkable ability to communicate emotion and atmosphere using texture and impasto. He has built a loyal following of collectors and we are delighted to be staging his first one man show at Colley Ison Gallery in September 2017.
Speaking about his work Danny said: ‘My main subject matter is people. I try to observe and capture the often unseen beauty of city life through expressive realism. The city serves as a constantly evolving backdrop with its wonderfully blended mix of citizens and visitors – who for me are the stars of the show!’
